To All Who Dream Bad Dreams for Them

Would you give up poems for peace?
Read no more, write no more, speak
No more, sing no more, no more?

You should. It might calm your mind,
Though you doubt it. The poems calmed
Your mind from when you set out—

If you’ve reached a dead end, well,
Are you sure you should turn back?
You should press on. Let’s press on,

Shall we? Through the thorns, find gaps
A few small words could squeeze through.
Which words would then see you through?
