As No One

You can’t be one. You know it.
You’ve tried so long to be it.
You’re two, if you’re one—three, four—
You’re Walt, you’re vast, but you’re not
Quite whole. The null is quite whole,
The set with no set in it.
The whole is one and then some,

The whole is what can’t be one,
Can’t be whole, must be some sum
Of parts more or less than whole.
In sum, the whole has to go.
The lost points of the whole shine
All night, sit up and count sheep.
Lean back in the seat and sleep.
