The Myth of Space

That it is right in front of us,
That it is next and not just past—

That, since it is in front of us,
We can plan for it, which we do.

It’s not quite wrong. Myths can’t be wrong,
But they can’t be used like hard tools.

There’s no next. We dance with the past,
And try to be the change we want

To see in the past that’s near us,
That’s not the same, that’s not our space.
