Must Be No Man

Said Donne of one who says
There is no God. Good God,

I think I’m not a man.
Well, who wants to be, now,

That we can see how small
Both men and gods can be?

But I’m struck by the strain
On Donne’s swift and deep wit

When he tried to slip past
Doubt by a show of doubt—

He must be no manhow
Else could a man have doubts?
