A Foil and No More

I do not want to join your team.
I do not want to join a team.
As it is, I am too much team,

From my long genes to their walled cells
To the bugs that bore through these guts
To the lights that wink in the sky

To say, psst, our mind is your mind.
No. Done. Be done. What have I been?
A fool, foil for thoughts, and no more.

But still, it creeps back in. It works,
That lust to be not me but us.
It says, be one of us. We win.
